And the winner is… Wissington Factory Team
Congratulations to British Sugar's Wissington factory team, who were awarded Best Manufacturing Business at the annual Mayor's Awards for Business Achievement in Kings Lynn recently.
Kathy Mellish, Borough Mayor, presented the prestigious challenge shield to Factory Manager Melvyn Mallott , on behalf of British Sugar plc . Mr Mallott remarked that this was, "a very special recognition for the busiest year most people can remember at Wissington Factory. When we last won the award back in 1996, it was for our beet processing operation. But now, I think the judges were surprised and hopefully impressed by the range of products we have developed at the factory."
British Sugar has invested over £50 million on new projects at Wissington, including the first industrial-scale bioethanol plant in the UK and the UK's largest glasshouse which produces around 70 million tomatoes each year.
The annual awards are organised by West Norfolk Council and sponsored by the Lynn News, the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Skills Council.
